In the world there are 118 countries that grow rice; among them Mexico, which has higher yields than the international average.

China allocates just over 3 million hectares to the cultivation of cereal, an area that allows it to obtain the largest volume of grain on the planet.

Seven out of every 10 tons of the national supply of grain are purchased from other nations. In 2017, a rebound was observed, both in imported and exported volumes.

The annual world volume of rice imports is 38 million tonnes.

Mexico could diversify the commercialization of the grain with South American countries.

Rice is a food rich in complex carbohydrates, such as starch, which provide most of its energy value.

This cereal provides very little amount of fat, which represents only 0.2% of its nutrient content and does not contain cholesterol. .

According to data from the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), the appropriate geographical characteristics for rice production include the following:

Altitude: 0 to 100 masl.

Rain: 1,000 to 1,900 mm.

Temperature: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius.

Edaphology: Preferably not calcareous, with a depth greater than 60cm, pH of 5.2-8.0.

 

The best yields of this crop come from the classified areas of high productive potential: however, states such as Yucat√°n, Chiapas and Guerrero, present favorable conditions for production that have been exploited.
